Gary Sheffield launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at the ballpark where the
Caracas Leones beat the Langley Farm Team 3 to 2.
The Caracas fans enjoyed the offense provided by Sheffield. He lifted one out
of the park for a two run home run in the 1st inning, delivered a solo blast
(his 26th of the season) in the 6th inning and lashed a single in the 7th
inning. Langley threatened in the 9th but Caracas was able to put down the
rally.
The win went to Brandon Backe(4-1) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Backe got help from Billy Wagner who earned his 19th save. Kevin
Millwood(7-9) absorbed the loss. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 5
hits and 5 walks.
Alan Dyche was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good contact,
but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning these
tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'
